avoid REgression

To avoid is to keep away from or stop oneself from doing (something). Regression is a return to a former or less developed state. When you put those two concepts together, you get what this blog is all about. My favorite quote says:

"Your words have power only to the degree that your life reflects your message." -Dr. A.R. Bernard...

My message:
Jesus Christ = the Truth. Live Above The Influence. Avoid Regression- even though they say it's impossible.

Some facts about me:
I Love God. I Love my Family and Friends. I love people in general and of course,
I Love my DST!! I'm into Natural Hair, Music, Food, Photography, Writing, Poetry and more recently, I've been into this quote:
"You cannot enslave a mind that knows itself. That values itself. That understands itself." -Wangari Maathai

It’s so easy to stand and point out the wrong things that people do, or criticize the flaws we see in other people. But I am finding that if we focus on ourselves long enough, we will realize that we do the SAME EXACT THINGS.

With that in mind, I will continue. I guess this is a rant about the Internet and Social Media. Everywhere I turn- even on my own Social Media sites, I see  contradictory messages/images/statements/things. In the sense that one thing is claimed, and another is presented. It leads me to wonder, why? Really, why?

I find myself just saying, “Oh.” No lie, I see something and then I’m like, Oh. And that’s really all I say. Now, I have gotten to a place where I don’t always comment on everything and just leave it alone. For one, nothing is worse than calling someone/something out- especially if you’re just flat out wrong. Makes ya look a bit foolish and opens you up for attacks.

Back to my point though. I really think all people would benefit from a bit of introspection. The other week I began to write down some things that I don’t like people doing within the different types of relationships that I am in. But then I began to think about whether I did those things as well in relationships and realized that I did a good majority of them- maybe not with that particular person, but in another one. So basically, if you punch me, but I don’t punch you I’ll be upset. Even though I may punch someone else who doesn’t punch me.

What am I trying to say in a nutshell?

  1. Look at and judge yourself holistically according to the standards you hold.
  2. Be very careful when criticizing, especially if you are separating yourself from the critique- as if you are somehow exempt..
  3. Be aware that you are susceptible to contradictions and try to minimize them.
  4. Realize that your opinions and beliefs are just that, opinions and beliefs. It’s hard not to state your views as fact, but try it sometimes.

The English language definitely allows us to do those things. :) I’m not saying abandon your opinions and beliefs, but realize, especially before judging and criticizing that there is a possibility that you may be contradicting yourself and wrong. *gasp* Yeah, I know. It’s crazy to think about.

As I wrap this up….

I was talking with my friend earlier about something related to this and she said: ”It’s the ability to sit and perfect your thoughts that allows people to perpetrate.” I think that’s very true. BUT, While our “presumed safety” behind the screen of the internet and social media gives us the opportunity to perpetrate, we can use that time to actually think before we act… I will say that our identities online really do reflect who we are- our thought process, maturity, common sense, intelligence, level of respect for others, character and more.

Avoid Regression.
